I’m envy with you. Fernanda : Yes we are, so sorry that you can’t went there with us. Mukhsen : That’s OK. Bay the way how’s Karangasem? Tara : Karangasem are amazing, we are so lucky that we had a chance to visit all of the Puri Area and facilities. Mukhsen : Oh, really? PuriKarangasem area and facilities? I know,PuriKarangasem has PuriAgung, Taman Ujung, and Taman Tirtagangga. Is it right? Tara : You’re right. PuriKarangasemarea are consist of PuriAgung, as the place for the king, and all of his wives to rest and also the place where the king lead the kingdom. Second, they have Taman Ujung, the water palace, it is the royal pleasure garden. Third is, Taman Tirtagannga,it is the pool area owned by PuriKarangasem. Mukhsen : wow it’s really amazing. But don’t you guys went there to do some research about the Puri history? Tara : Yes we are. I did some research about how the Puri was build. Mukhsen : How is it? Tara : The Origin of PuriKaranasem is Samprangan Kingdom which built around 1400 by the representative of Gajah Mada from Majapahit Kingdom. Samprangan Kingdom then became Gel-gel Kingdom. Around 1600 the Kingdom had an inner conflict which made the Kingdom splits into 9 Kingdom,which the greatest are PuriBadung, Buleleng, Mengwi and Karangasem. At the early of 19th century, Karengasem became the greatest and the most powerfullKingdom in Bali and Lombok. The last king of PuriKarangasem is A.A.A AnglurahKetutKarangasem. He began to lead the Kingdom at 1909. Actually he is the King’s nephew, whom became a King because the previous King doesn’t has a son. He has 12 wifes. At that moment, in PuriKarangasem there is no mistress, all of his wives were married legally. The women which taken to the court not only from aristocracy, but also the sisters and daughters of important leaders on all levels of society, at that time they did this to show their power and to prevented rebellion. He is the first King of Karangasem whose bring the modernizations to the Puri. Mukhsen : Wooaa, such an interesting history. How about you? Meylinda : I made a research about the Puri historical architecture. As I’ve said before, the PuriKarangasem area are consist of PuriAgung, as the place for the king, and all of his wives to rest and also the place where the king lead the kingdom. Taman Ujung, the water palace, as the royal pleasure garden and Taman Tirtagannga which also the water palace.Many Water Palace huh? Well, PuriKarangasemare well known by their Water Palace. Water Palace is a building which surrounded by the water. So the Palace look like floating on the water. It is the trade mark of PuriKarangasem. Wherever they built a Palace, they always built Water Palece. All of Puri architecture are very modern, they combine 3 cultural elements, which are Holland, Chinese, and Balinese. Mukhsen : That sounds amazing, so wherever we go to Karangasem Kingdom Palace, they always have water palace? Even in Lombok? Meylinda : Yap, even in Lombok. Mukhsen : hmmm. And you? What are you doing there? Fernanda : Oh, I did some research about the relationship of Islamic society around Puri, with the royal family. Mukhsen : Oh yea, I’ve heard that there are many mooslem living around Puri Karangasem area. How can that be? Are they have a good relationship? Fernanda : It started when Karangasem Kingdom overcome Lombok Kingdom. The Lombok Kingdom folks which dominate by mooslem were moved to Karangasem. They were placed around the kingdom area in circle, made a fortify. It was the Kings strategy to Protect the Kingdom. Their relationship are very good. The Purigive them the facilities and enough space to do their worship. Even the Adzan in Karangasem sometimes using Balinese language. Mukhsen : Wooow. It’s amazing. Woa I really envy you. I wish someday I’ll have a chance to visit Purikarangasem.
